PPG Illinois Powered Paragliding Paramotor

Come Fly with us!

Windy City PPG is a certified USPPA training center who uses USPPA certified instruction and the

USPPA approved training syllabus.

We have a variety of training options to meet your schedule and spending needs!

We take you from the ground up!

In a 5-10 mph wind you can learn to fly the wing while standing on the ground.  You will learn to reverse- and forward-inflate the glider and build skills needed to successfully pilot your paramotor.

Once the basic kiting skills are learned, you advance to pre-take off lessons, your first solo flight, ground school, theory of flight, site awareness and FAA regulations.

After learning to fly at our site, our instructors will travel to your home area, look for appropriate launching sites, and work with you to confidently fly in your area.

Our USPPA PPG 2 rating is the standard in the industry and allows you to fly with confidence.

Training Fee Breakdown and Sequence

Our $2500 training fee amounts to $1250 for ground handling and $1250 for flight training.

Step 1: Ground Kiting

  1. 12 Hours: Our Paraglider/Paramotor instruction starts with learning to ground kite your wing.  In a 5-10 mph wind you will learn to fly the wing while standing on the ground, anticipate the control inputs and body movements necessary for keeping your wing overhead.
  2. In addition, students will learn a variety of methods for unpacking and laying out their glider, understand the anatomy of their glider and risers.
  3. You will learn to reverse- and forward-inflate the paraglider and build skills needed to successfully pilot your craft.
  4. Prepare for the USPPA PPG1 written and proficiency tests.

Step 2: PPG1 Solo Flight

  1. 3 Hours: Once basic kiting skills are learned, you will advance to pre-take off lessons and working on your first solo flight.
  2. Assemble your motor, do the initial break-in run up to seat piston rings, and hang test you in the paramotor for proper balance.
  3. At this time we also transition to kiting with an extra 70lbs of paramotor on your back and learn throttle control to help move you along (Taxi).

Step 3: PPG2 Flight Proficiency

  1. 15 Hours:  After your solo flight, things really start to come together and make sense!
  2. It takes about 25-30 flights for new students to hone their skills, and build confidence in their equipment, as we continue with a variety of ground school topics including weather, winds, basic aerodynamics, oscillation control, proposing, downwind demon, Federal Aviation Regulations (Part 103), local codes and ordinances, airport traffic and predictable patterns, communications, motor maintenance, etc.
  3. Prepare for the USPPA PPG2 written and proficiency tests.
